Turkey Intends To Built Its Foremost Space Agency Very Soon


Turkey has placed its focus on the stars. An executive order has been signed by Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, its President, to create the foremost official space agency of the country. Researchers welcome the step and anticipate the agency will offer jobs & decrease “brain drain” while they speculate about the achievability of its determined objectives.

The agency is anticipated to build technologies for space exploration and rocket launches, in addition to organize the space-associated activities of the other space-research centers of the country, as per the order that the president inked on December 13, 2018. It’s not yet apparent when precisely the agency will be built and function or how much of the national funds will be billed to the agency. Already, the Turkish government supports numerous space-research centers, 2 of which will now observe their backing slash as monies are forwarded to the new agency.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation—an organization that controls civil aerospace—and the Space Technologies Research Institute of Turkey will both witness 20% of their funds forwarded to the agency. Likewise, the ESA has collaborated with ArianeGroup to examine a possible assignment to the moon by 2025 to assess the extracting of lunar regolith, as per Popular Mechanics. Past Google Lunar XPrize participator and a German group, Part-Time Scientists, will also be engaged in the research. The aim is to position a lander on the moon to extract and process regolith for helpful materials—such as metals, oxygen, water, and an isotope known as helium-3—that might prove valuable for fueling potential fusion reactors.
